LinkedIn Ads: Grant Access via Business Manager

If your company uses LinkedIn Business Manager, follow these steps. It's a two-part process: first you invite Ben to your Business Manager, then you assign him to your ad account.

What you'll need

  • Access to your LinkedIn Business Manager (you need to be a Business Manager Admin)
  • About 5-10 minutes

Who to add

DetailValue
NameBen Hawkshaw-Burn
Emailbenhb@geekytech.co.uk
LinkedIn profilelinkedin.com/in/benhawkshawburn

TIP

Business Manager invitations go by email, so Ben doesn't need to be in your LinkedIn network for this to work.

Part 1: Invite Ben to your Business Manager

Step 1: Open your Business Manager

  1. Go to linkedin.com/businessmanager and sign in.
  2. Pick your Business Manager from the list if you've got more than one.

Step 2: Invite Ben

  1. Click People in the left menu.
  2. Click the Invite people button (top-right corner).
  3. Enter Ben's email: benhb@geekytech.co.uk
  4. Set the Business Manager role to: Contractor
  5. Click Invite.

Ben will get an email invite and needs to accept it before you can do the next bit.

Why "Contractor"?

LinkedIn has three Business Manager roles: Admin, Employee, and Contractor. Contractor is the one designed for external partners like agencies. It lets Ben access your ad accounts without giving him control over your Business Manager settings.

Invite not showing up?

You can resend it from the People page (look for the resend icon next to pending invitations), or share the activation link directly.

Part 2: Give Ben access to your ad account

Once Ben has accepted the invite, you need to assign him to your specific ad account.

Step 3: Go to Ad Accounts

  1. In the left menu, click Ad accounts.
  2. Click the name of the ad account you want us to manage.

Step 4: Add Ben to the ad account

  1. Click the Add people button (top-right).
  2. Find and tick Ben Hawkshaw-Burn.
  3. Click Assign role (top-right).
  4. Pick the role: Account Manager
  5. Click Add.

Don't skip this step

Being invited to your Business Manager doesn't automatically give Ben access to your ad accounts. You need to assign him to each ad account separately.

What can Account Manager do?

PermissionIncluded?
View campaign performanceYes
Create and edit campaignsYes
Create and edit adsYes
Manage user access on the accountYes
Edit account detailsYes
View billing historyYes
Change billing/payment detailsNo

This gives us everything we need to manage your campaigns and set up conversion tracking, without access to your billing.

For us to create and manage Sponsored Content (the ads that show up in people's LinkedIn feeds), we also need access to your company page.

Step 5: Assign Ben to your page

  1. In the left menu, click Pages.
  2. Pick your company page.
  3. Click Add people or Manage access.
  4. Find Ben Hawkshaw-Burn.
  5. Give him at least Sponsored Content Poster access.
  6. Click Save.

Do I have to do this?

Not strictly, but Sponsored Content is the most common and effective LinkedIn ad format. Without page access, we can't run those for you. We'd recommend doing it.

What happens next?

Once all three parts are done:

  • Our PPC team can manage your campaigns through Ben's account.
  • You stay in full control of your Business Manager. You can change or remove access whenever you want.
  • We'll confirm everything's connected and ready to go.

Removing access later

  1. Go to your Business Manager > People.
  2. Find Ben Hawkshaw-Burn.
  3. Click the options menu and hit Remove.

This removes his access to everything in your Business Manager at once.
