Grant Us Access to Google Tag Manager
We need access to your Google Tag Manager (GTM) container so we can set up and manage tracking tags for your ad campaigns. This includes things like conversion tags, remarketing pixels, and analytics scripts.
What you'll need
- Access to your GTM account at tagmanager.google.com (you need to be an Admin)
- Our email address below
- About 5 minutes
Who to add
| Detail | Value |
|---|---|
| team@geekytech.co.uk | |
| Container permission | Publish |
Step 1: Open Google Tag Manager
- Go to tagmanager.google.com and sign in.
- Make sure you're signed in with the Google account that has Admin access to your GTM account.
Not sure which account?
Look at the avatar in the top-right corner. If you have multiple Google accounts, click it and switch to the one that manages your website's tags.
Step 2: Go to User Management
- Click Admin in the top navigation.
- In the Container column (right side), click User Management.
Step 3: Add our email
- Click the blue + button in the top-right corner.
- Select Add Users.
- Enter our email address: team@geekytech.co.uk
- Under Container Permissions, tick the Publish checkbox.
- Click Invite.
That's it! We'll get an email invitation and accept it from our end.
What does "Publish" access let us do?
| Permission | Included? |
|---|---|
| View tags, triggers, and variables | Yes |
| Create and edit tags | Yes |
| Create container versions | Yes |
| Publish changes to the live container | Yes |
| Add or remove other users | No |
| Create new containers | No |
Publish is the standard level we need to manage your tracking properly. It lets us make changes and push them live, but it doesn't give us control over your account settings or other users.
How GTM permissions work
GTM has two layers of permissions:
| Layer | What it controls | What we get |
|---|---|---|
| Account level | Overall account settings and user management | User (granted automatically) |
| Container level | What you can do inside a specific container | Publish (you set this) |
When you grant us Publish at the container level, GTM automatically gives us "User" access at the account level. You don't need to set anything separately.
What happens next?
Once we accept the invite:
- We can start setting up and managing tracking tags in your container.
- You stay the account owner and Admin. You can change or remove our access anytime.
- We'll let you know once we're in and confirm everything looks good.
