Google Analytics 4: Common Issues

Running into trouble? Here's what comes up most often.

"I can't find Property Access Management"

A few possible reasons:

  1. You're not an Administrator. Only Administrators can manage users. If you don't see this option under the Property column in Admin, you'll need to ask the person who set up GA4 to add us or upgrade your role.
  2. You're looking at the Account level. GA4 has both Account and Property settings. Make sure you're clicking Property Access Management (middle column), not Account Access Management.
  3. Wrong property selected. If you have multiple GA4 properties, check the property switcher in the top-left to make sure you're in the right one.

"I'm not sure which GA4 property is mine"

If you see multiple properties when you sign in:

  • The property name usually matches your website or business name.
  • Each property has a Measurement ID that starts with G- (like G-ABC123XYZ). If your developer or website platform shows this ID somewhere, you can match it up.
  • When in doubt, let your GeekyTech account manager know and we'll help identify the right one.

"I have Universal Analytics, not GA4"

Universal Analytics was turned off by Google in July 2023. If you still see references to it, your account was probably migrated to GA4 automatically. Look for a property that has a Measurement ID starting with G- rather than UA-.

If you genuinely don't have a GA4 property set up, let your GeekyTech account manager know. We can help you create one.

"I added the email but they say they can't see anything"

Check these things:

  • Correct email? Make sure you added team@geekytech.co.uk (not a personal email).
  • Right property? We might have been added to a different property than the one we need.
  • Role too low? If you gave us Viewer or Analyst access instead of Administrator, we can see reports but can't manage anything. You can update the role in Property Access Management.

"I'm signed in but I can't see my GA4 property"

You're probably signed in with the wrong Google account. This is really common when people have both a personal Gmail and a work account.

  1. Click your avatar in the top-right corner.
  2. Check which email is shown.
  3. Switch to the account that has access to your GA4 property.

"What's the difference between GA4 and Google Tag Manager?"

They do different things:

ToolWhat it does
Google Analytics 4 (GA4)Collects and reports on your website data. This is where you see your traffic, conversions, and user behaviour.
Google Tag Manager (GTM)Manages the tracking codes on your website. It's the tool that sends data to GA4 (and other platforms).

We need access to both. For GTM, see the Google Tag Manager guide.

"I don't want you to see my revenue data"

That's fine. When adding us, you can tick the "No revenue metrics" restriction box. This hides sales and transaction data from our view. Just let your GeekyTech account manager know so we can adjust our reporting accordingly.

You can also restrict cost metrics the same way if you prefer.

"I have multiple GA4 properties"

Just make sure you're granting access to the right one. If you run multiple websites or brands, each typically has its own GA4 property. Check with your GeekyTech account manager if you're not sure which one we need access to.

"I want to remove access later"

No problem:

  1. Go to analytics.google.com and sign in.
  2. Click the Admin gear icon (bottom-left).
  3. Click Property Access Management.
  4. Find team@geekytech.co.uk in the list.
  5. Click the three dots next to it and select Remove access.
